Monkey Mountain Nature Reserve
Pictures
Grasslands, woods, limestone outcrops, and the Sni A Bar Creek make for an interesting scenic hike. Most of our hike on this day was not on a trail, but we discovered a deer carcus, a tree bridge, 2 picnic areas, and a clever geocache. Eventaully we did end up on a trail and back to the trail head. Many hours could be spent exploring this Nature Reserve.

Location
2 entrances exist to the trails. The north entrance is at the Monkey Mountain Sports Complex off old Highway 40 in Oak Grove. The South entrance is in Grain Valley off R.D. Mize. More information can be found HERE
History:
The park was formerly part of Sni-A-Bar Farm, world renowned in the early 20th century for improved cattle breeding, and animal health that was owned by Kansas City newspaperman, and philanthropist, William Rockhill Nelson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_Mountain

Monkey Mountain Nature Reserve is located in Grain Valley and consists of a horse back riding trail and a cross country skiing trail. Both trails can be used for hiking. The trails are not marked and would be considered "primitive" as they are not mulched or paved. Getting lost on these trails would be easy. Bring a buddy with you.
